Clone forms

This article presents PlatoForms’ form cloning feature.

What is form cloning?

PlatoForms’ form cloning duplicates existing forms, letting you insert new data while retaining the original form’s structure and settings. Once the cloning process is finished, the newly created form will inherit all the fields, logic, and settings from the original form.

Clone a form

1. Hover over the desired form on the Dashboard.

2. Click the Settings (gear) icon in the top right corner and select Clone Form.

   

3. In the pop-up window, you will see the following options:

   

   • Reuse PDF: Enable this option to reuse the uploaded PDF file from your original form, avoiding the need to upload a new one.

   • Reuse Fields: Enable this option to reuse the original form fields; a new PDF upload is required.

   • Master Master Form: Enable this option to create a Master Form for use as a base for other forms; it clones the fields from the original form to generate both the Master Form and linked forms.

   • Keep the original form’s URL: The new form uses the URL of the original form, while the original form is given a new URL.

     Note

     The original form remains inaccessible until the new form is published. This means respondents cannot access the form using the previously shared public URL, Embed Scripts, or QR code.

Set up the cloning options

1. Choose how to set up the cloning options:

   • Enable Reuse PDF and disable Reuse Fields.

     

     This allows you to use the same PDF you uploaded for the original form but without reusing its fields. You can start fresh by adding and mapping new fields.

   • Disable Reuse PDF and enable Reuse Fields.

     

     Reuse the fields from the original form, but not the PDF itself. These fields will appear in the cloned form just as they did in the original form, and you can move and edit them as needed.

     Note

     When you disable Reuse PDF to upload a new PDF file, you might have to adjust the page order. See the Remap page order section for details.

   • Enable Reuse PDF and Reuse Fields.

     

     Reuse both the PDF file and the fields from the original form when you only have small changes.

2. After comfirming your settings, click Clone.
   This will open the form builder of the cloned form.

Remap page order

When you’re cloning a form without also reusing the PDF (switch off Reuse PDF), you might need to adjust the page order if the new PDF has pages arranged differently than the old one.

When do I need remap pages

• The new PDF adds a page within the middle. If the new page is only added at the end, no remapping is needed.
• Some pages are removed from the middle.
• Pages are swapped around.

How to remap pages

1. Before uploading the new PDF, switch on the Pages in new PDF are in a different order than old PDF option located at top.
   

   

2. Drag a PDF file or click the Upload button to upload a new PDF.

3. In the Remap the corresponding pages page that opens, you can mark new pages, deleted undesired pages.

   
   Note

   The upper pages are from the PDF file you uploaded, and the bottom pages are the ones copied from the original form.

   • Click “New page? Yes” to bring the new pages down and include them on your cloned form.

     

   • Click Deleted page?Yes to delete the undesired pages from your cloned form.

     

4. After adding the new pages and deleting undesired pages, you can arrange the page order by draging and droping them to the desired location.

   

5. After confirming your changes, click Done.

   You will land on the form builder of the cloned form, which retains the same fields, logic, and settings as the original form.
